my children are 17 and 16 and would like to be adopted by their stepdad. I would like to know if i can do it without a lawyer and how much it will cost me. the kids father has never in his life paid child support and he would like to terminate his rights. I would like to have detail on what to do and how to do this please.

To make it legal I am pretty sure you will need a lawyer, that way no one else can claim them also. Shop around you should beable to find someone that doesn't cost loads of money. good luck and hey you have yourself one terrific man who wants and loves your children like they are his own..

I am not sure if you can do this without a lawyer or not. Try calling a local adption agency and see what advice they can give you in this matter. You can also call your local courthouse as well for help and info if need be. Once the realy father terminates his rights adoption should actually be quite easy. Good luck to you! I think you will need some sort of legal documentation to do this though. Maybe a parallegal may be able to help kinda like a lawyer would but like i said I am not an expert in this matter.

There are those do it yourself kits, but you still need to see a lawyer so they can finalize everything. If the "father" is willing to give up his rights it will be wayyyyy easier..

You may try asking a DFACS social worker if there is another procedure. I am pretty sure you will need a lawyer.

call your cities courthouse and ask them -- I am sue some sort of legal papers hav to be put through the courts. good luck

if i remember correctly you have to get an attorney of course and then you have to put it in the paper of the town you think your ex lives in and then if he doesnt fight it you can get the divorce.. i cant remember how long they have to respond.. its been 25 years since ive done it
