Cant help you with the first part because i think you can only buy it Burty expansion packs allow you to add extra features to your game so you may have SIMS the add the expansion pack of Sims Pet's. You can then use pets. The more expansion packs you have the more cool features you have.

You need the main Sims 2 game to be able to run and play the expansion packs. EP's (expansion packs) are differently themed add on's for the main games.

You get extra districts, objects or things to do. I don't know where you can download the game but once you do have it you can download custom content for free at www.thesimsresource.com

i dont think you can download the proper game, but lots of the game packs are $30 in regular game stores. The sims2 is the best 1, and expansion packs are add ons or extras to your origainal game. You can get sime 2:
pets
nightlife
university
open for business

you can collect them all and that makes your game even better!

You have to buy the Sims2 then add expansion packs which also you have to buy.Others may say you can download at certain sites but this is illegel and also usally a place to get viruses,spyware and things that will completly crash your computer.They can also steal your passwords,name ect... through these illegel sites so BEWARE!
