Well you have to be familiary with testing elecrical devices. Unplug it and open the top and see if you can get to the thermal cut-off devices that are wired in series with your elements. When cold they should conduct when checked with an ohmmeter or continuity checker. The elements themselves should not have a break in them. All connections should be secure. Vacuum the lint/dust while you are in there to see better and for fire safety.

After all is well here, then perhaps the relay contacts in your timer that activate the heating elements are shot. Sometimes you can file them clean and bend them a little to get better contact. This will suffice to prove the problem, but is NOT a permanent fix. If this applies to your situation, then order a new timer to get the most life. These run $45 to $95 on average.

Hiya! Well i've got a hotpoint and my tumble dryer stopped working twice and i called the repair guy in.....turned out my machine hadn't packed up but the wire that connects the dryer in the machine at the top had come out and he simply put it back in.

So i reckon that could be the problem...he charged me £30.

Hope that this helps!

Regards, Ria :-)

If its gas 9out of 10 times its the igniter not firing up the gas burner for the heat in the dryer. $30 dollar part in the bottom of the dryer.

My drier did that. It was a broken thermostat. Easy to fix. - but it could be something else.
