I tried out and didnt make it last year, so I joined an all-star team, then I quit that so I'm a little my skills are a bit rusty. I'm wanting to start preparing myself in at least one month in advance. I know what I need to be sharpening up on. Those skills are jumps, balance, strength, and tumbling. Any advice?

heyy i cheer so i can help you! I think you should start now stretching everyday and making sure you can do a split.. also make sure you can do arm motions really good and make sure they are strong and tight and practice doing all the motions with a 5-7-8 count. For my highschool team, you need to have a perfect running and standing backhandspring, but in a few years my high school team will probably have to have a standing tuck to get on it so if you have good tumbling skills thats really really important they like when people can do more than just one simple backhandspring.. you shouls probably take some tumbling classes if would like.. also make sure you have upper arm strength for stunts because that is also very important and make sure you know all the spots in a stunt because if you can do all of the spots, theyll like people who can be flexible with which spot they can do in cause someone get hurts or something and you could fill in that spot. For the dance part, i would suggest taking a dance class and just taking all the steps one by one. I know thats a lot but if you follow that, im sure youll do great at tryouts.. Good luck and i hope you make the team this year!

It is tough these days! Now, you are required to be extremely athletic and a capable gymnast and dancer. You need to concentrate on three areas: Appearance (nice hair, good skin, good figure, nice smile - good teeth - people will braces are not disqualified). Learn to smile all the time and look like you are enjoying yourself; Gymnastic ability. If you are not offered comprehensive gymnastics in school PE, take outside lessons with a good coach. You'll need to learn to do aerial flips as well as cartwheels and handstands. You need poise, balance and agility so daily workouts on the balance beam are probably a must. Dance. Take ballet definitely - also jazz and modern dance, but only in addition to ballet, not in place of it. Be the best that you can be but always remember that a cheerleading squad is a TEAM, so teamwork, cooperation and comraderie with your fellow cheerleaders is necessary for you to achieve your goal.

The most important thing is a positive attitude. You may not think that the way you look is important, but it really is. You need to wear school colors and make sure your clothes fit well. Shorts not too long or too short. No spagetti straps. If your hair is long, pull it back and put a ribbon in it. No nail polish. Wear just a little lip gloss and mascara and blush... that's it! Wear small footie socks with your tennis shoes. Work on your jumps and make sure they are as high as possible. Don't concentrate on the form so much as the height. Make sure your voice projects and you are not screaming. And most importantly SMILE the entire time... have good eye contact with the judges and make them think you know exactly what you are doing. Make sure you are respectful to all adults and others that are trying out. You'll make it this time.... make sure to let me know if you do! Good luck!

so you might want to take a tumbling class so that you can sharpen your strength and tumbling, it also sharpens your balance too... also talk to other girls who have been on the team before they can help you with the types of moves and cheers they might do so them you will be more prepared this year... make sure you smile big and have a lot of confidence.... you will want to make sure this is what you want to do because if you make the team you don't want to quit and then let all of your team members down.... good luck! hope this helped
