When I download Yahoo Messenger it defaults it to Dial-up. I have "No proxies" selected. I don't have the firewall selected on my PC. I use to be able to get in and use it before my hard drive was replaced.

My internet connections is "Never dial a connection".

go to Internet Options - connections - In the box with your connections make sure it says Never dial a connection.

As you did not tell us what kind of connection you are using instead of dial up...
Start IE
Click on Tools
Select Internet Options
Go to the Connections tab
You will find settings in there to determine where it dials and what it uses as the default connection.
