I often think Peter O'Toole has been deserving on many levels for his past Oscar nominations. It occurs to me that I am most recently angry about last years Oscars, which awarded George Clooney with the Best Supporting statute instead of Paul Giamatti, whom I believe to be the better actor, and in this category the most worthy overall performance in Cinderella Man.
As far as directors go, now that we have Scorcese out of the way, I think the late Robert Altman for several of his pictures and Sidney Lumet (at least for 12 Angry Men) were deserving.

Cary Grant was sorely overlooked for awards, as was Errol Flynn. Paul Newman should have won for HUD, THE HUSTLER and COOL HAND LUKE. But he didn't.

mine is a movie:
how "gone with the wind" beat out "the wizard of oz" in 1939 is beyond me. i mean, c'mon, sure "gone with the wind" is an epic, but who out there didn't fall asleep 20 times while watching it? "the wizard of oz" is and was a classic. big movie injustice.

i've always thought henry fonda should have won for -mr. roberts. the one he got for on golden ond- which i hated-he got simply b/c/ he was so old.
