I bought a sweater but they only had it available in a size large and I want it smaller. Any way I can shrink it just a little bit.

washing it in cold water will not work. you need to wash it in hot water and dry it on a high heat setting. depending on the fabric it should shrink. or you could always get it hemmed. ask someone who knows how to sew if they would do that favor for you. its not that hard.

What I do is throw it in the dryer. But that can OVER shrink it..

So just throw it in the dryer for 15 minutes and see what it does. Works best with cottons and works too well with wool.

Unless it's a man-made material like acrylic.. then good luck - nothing really shrinks acrylic...

depends on the material really. best bet for correct shrinking is to take it in and get it taylored.
