You don't know if you need one but your doctor will recomment one based on your situation. It doesn't matter how far along you are when you miscarry, I had a d & c after miscarrying at 5 weeks. I would think that your doctor would want to do one just to make sure that everything is gone.

I am so sorry to hear about your losses.

Your OB/GYN is the best person to ask if this procedure is necessary. If you have not had any unusual heavy bleeding, cramping or discharge, you are probably okay. The D&C is done to scrape the lining of the uterus of any residual cells leftover from the pregnancy.
Has your doctor done an ultrasound?
Good Luck.

Really it depends on you. I had to have one with my first miscarriage and not with this miscarriage. My first miscarriage I had to have it because I was bleeding for 2 weeks and the ultrasound showed that none of the baby was getting out of me. So they had to do it. Plus I emotionally couldn't wait it out anymore. With this miscarriage I bled for a week and a half and it passed on its own. It depends on how you feel and it depends on if the baby is passing on its own or not. Talk to your doc and see what he has to say.
