The next total solar eclipse in the continental US is on August 21, 2017. Go to the link below for an interactive map of the eclipse path:

It looks like Kansas City is right on the edge of the total path.

There's a chance for an annular eclipse in 2012 (depending on where in the US you are). And a partial in 2014. You can search around on NASA's eclipse website and find info about those, too.
