Several months ago, I read about a fund-raiser that Rupert Murdoch threw for Hillary Clinton. As everyone knows, Murdoch usually supports conservative politicians, though Tony Blair is an exception. Is he perhaps hoping that Hillary Clinton will win the candidacy and that people will vote for the Republican candidate as a result?

Because Murdoch is not a conservative idealogue. He does whatever makes money for him.

In 2004, the President of Murdoch's News Corp publically endorsed John Kerry because he said he'd be better for business than a Republican who was threatening the solvancy of the US by running up unprecidented deficits.

No Let me explain a little politics 101 my friend!! Mr Murdoch is a very wealthy , influential man with friends from many walks of life, w diverse interests, & a desire to communicate with a political "celebrity" , & potential President of this country.

He's a smart man, & as the adage goes "keep your friends close, but keep your enemies closer!" Regardless of whether he supports Hillary as a candidate there is nothing preventing him from respecting her as a person and wishing to extend a hand of reason.

Just because you disagree doesn't mean you don't communicate or do something positive for another.

That's what republican normally do. They will pump in the money to the candidate they think will not get election when the race is down to one person from each party.
However the democrats are quickly catching on they pumped thier money into a person who would never take the senate. He took the RNC domination but the democrat took the seat.

It's called hedging your bets and almost all large contributors whose business enterprises depend upon politicians not going crazy on them do the same.

Hollywood doesn't because it doesn't have to and trial lawyers and teachers' unions don't because they know it won't do them any good if Republicans are elected.

But business people almost always give money to both sides. Nothing new there. And, for the conspiracy-minded, nothing nefarious there either!
