I wouldn't rely on birth control to clear up acne. I would use ProActive-i haven't used it personally but i have had quite a few friends that have used it and they look like new people.

Firstly, ALWAYS get a doctors opinion. They'll know about any medical conditions which will be affected (in a negative way) by taking birth control. I have a few medical conditions so I cannot take many birth control brands. My doctor suggested a low dose prescription. Talk to a doctor (the one you normally go to that knows your medical history, not someone that doesn't know anything about you (ie planned parenthood and the like). Since you 15, can you talk to your mom about it?

Another thing you might try, is (and most people think this is gross, but it works for a lot of my friends) stop using cleansers, soaps, toners, and any face products. Just use your hands and water. My mom, and a few of my friends do that. and they have beautiful complexions. It only works for me in the Spring/Summer, in winter my skin is too dry....but it's an option. If you do use this method, invest in some oil blotters, (even tissue, without lotion, would work).

Birth control will not make your acne go away for sure. There are lots of bad side effects from birth control. See your doc and ask about trying antibiotic therapy to get your acne under control. Acne is caused by the staph bacteria so antibiotics should help you a lot.

Sure, birth control can increase chances of stroke, and all sorts of other big deal things, but honestly, who thinks that is going to happen to them? The things that I noticed about birth control that really were lousy, were that my sex drive was decreased, I was hungry all the time (increasing the possibility of weight gain), I was an emotional wreck (and at 15, you probably don't need any more of that!).... and so now, I don't use it because of those very big side effects that doctors don't think are important. Anywho, I wouldn't try it for acne, go to a doctor and try other, more specific meds, or try a nutritionist and change your diet.

you really need to discuss this with your doctor, for the best advice, side effects from birth control can depend on the type of b/c and you as an individual, somecommon effects are weight gain, maybe headaches, mood swings, but this doesn't happen to everyone!
i have heard that birth control pills as very efective in helping with acne and spots, so i would try speaking to your doctor for some professional advice,
people go onto birth control for many reasons not just to prevent pregnancy.

Birth Control can make you feel really sick and i don't know that it is worth it to you. When i was your age i had acne problems and they finally went away after a couple years. If you are going to try a birth control pill just make sure you find one that works for you, because right now i am 18 and so dizzy and nauseated form the pill that it is so not worth it to me. Good Luck, and you'll figure out what works best for you!

I don't get it. You want to try birth control to get rid of your acne?

Quarantine your face from anything dirty, oily or gives rise to bacteria. Change your pillow case every night, use different soap than you use for the rest of your body and wash often. when you do wash, do it several times. Wear a hair net when you go to bed and keep your hair back. Avoid touching your face or resting on your hands and arms. Don't give those little suckers even the smallest fighting chance.

As far as sex, don't be active until you're married, and then only be active with your spouse. This is the best sex, all other sex will not be as enjoyable.

Birth control makes a lot of people gain weight. Why would you take birth control to get rid of acne though? Why don't you just get ProActive. That stuff works great.

Many people have found relief from severe acne by taking BCPs. This is not to say it will or will not work for you.

Any medication can have adverse side effects, and BCPs are as specific as the person taking them. One might make you gain weight while helping your acne while another might not help your acne but will lighten your period. Some pills have absolutely no side effects. It all depends on how the chemicals will intereact with your personal body chemistry.

Before you go on BCPs may I recommend trying ProActiv Solution acne care? I've seen great success with it for my son (who obviously cannot take the pill).

Talk to your doctor about effectiveness for acne. Side effects can include weight gaining, headache and moodswings or moodchange. (I became somewhat depressed with mercilon, which went away when stopped) The only way acne lessend with me was a rigorous measure to minimise the amount of fats in my food and I went from eating cheap fats ( in supper and so on) to buying and eating the more expensive ones. (though they last longer because you need less) things like cold pressed sesame oil... very tasty, and way better than full butter or those baking products and it really lessend my acne with 60 percent in 4 weeks... I kept it up and gone it was... No idea if it works for everyone... Hope it does for you though, because I remember how it felt having acne everywhere... Good Luck!!

Ortho Tri Cyclen is the pill that helps clear acne.

I would suggest talking to your parents and doctor about it. It does help, and when you decide to become sexually active, you'll be protected.

Also, have you tried Proactiv or this product called Acne Free (available in drugstores)? Those products have great success rates of getting rid of your scne, and will probably be cheaper than BC pills (Ortho Tri Cyclen is about 30 bucks a month depending on your insurance copay, and you can't get generic - it won't helps with acne).

The best thing to do is talking to your parents and doctor first.
