I have just bought some Clarks shoes and I don't understand? It has a moulded emblem on the sole that says "Airport Friendly". Does anyone know what this means? Cheers Guys and Girls for any information.

It means that the internal components, primarily the "shank" which has traditionally been make of steel, is now made with a component that will pass thru not only the metal detector, but also the xray imaging process without raising any eyebrows or setting off any alarms. The shank use to be in the shape of a knife blade and was sometimes used in prisons to attack fellow inmates. They now make them out of composition platics and wood and have significantly changed the shape to that more like the top portion of a spatula, much wider, to remove the look of a weapon when they go thru the xray machine. The newer shank manufacturing is also required for prison footwear.

hmmm...tricky! Perhaps it has something to do with the fact that you can't pack anything into the soles. Do you remember that time when the terrorist planted explosives in the soles of his shoes and then tried to start lighting them once the plane was in the air. Perhaps it means that it doesn't have any hollow space... just a guess though!!

u r so right to feel upset as its a joke what we all have to learn during time ...must mean that there is nothing metalic inside so it wont cause any problems on the control
anyway , where are the good old times when things were much easier and we did not have to thought about so many useless things .......

happy airport friendly walking :-)

I am pretty sure this means that they don't have any metal in the shoe that will set off the metal detector so you can wear them through. MOst countries' airports are making you take off your shoes no matter what now, though.

I believe it means that there is no metal in them to set off the security gates. You'll probably still have to take them off at the airport, though.

it means there is a hidden secret apartment, so you can hide your scissers and nail file or swiss army knife ,so you drive the security mad every time the buzzer goes off,
