where the hell have you been the last few weeks not to have heard about this ???
There are two stroies
The virgin Story : Sky doubled the price of the licence to show sky one etc on cable, and virgin refused to pay the extra and have accused sky of limiting the market so that cable customers go to sly insead.
The Sky Story : The price was good value for money which virgin wanted for less money
Look on bbc or google news for full articles but basically Sky and Virgin couldnt agree a price to show the channels on cable
WHATEVER you do dont switch to sky thats exacly what they want, they are a rip off in every sense of the word

Here is legal advice from "Consumer Direct". Pass it on, contact "Virgin" and tell them what the advice is!
"When another company takes over another there is always a period of adjustment and certain issues arise. From your enquiry I understand that there is an issue that you no longer receive a Digital Channel that you used to get with NTL.
We would advise sending the Trader a recorded delivery letter, keeping a copy for your records. In this letter you will need to explain the story, how you was with NTL for a contract for Digital TV and the fact that since Virgin have taken over the service you are unable to access all the Digital Channels that you pay for (as it did before the change of ownership).
Due to these facts you believe there has been a significant change in the service, and to your contract, that has been provided and in respect of this you would like to cancel your contact. Then make time of the essence by giving the Trader a reasonable period of time to respond to your letter.
The cancellation of your contract and service with the Trader may take up to 30 days to complete and this time will need to be given to the Trader as notice."

As Cable TV was recently revamped and taken over by Virgin Media, Sky refused to give them the channels. Sky then offered the channels for double the price, and thus Virgin refused to pay extortionate rates. ie NO SKY CHANNELS

Virgin is in a huff with Sky who wanted to charge them extra to supply them with these "premium channels".
So without asking their customers what they wanted, Virgin said the cost was too much for these "unwatched" channels and refused to pay.
So, for Sky One, Sky News, etc, you will now have to subscribe to Sky instead. If you have a Virgin (ex NTL/Telewest) account, phone free on 150 and complain loudly, you may at least get a discount or an upgrade on your existing package. Don't be fooled by the "what's going on" message; this is the same corporate whitewash as is now displayed on the screen instead of your Sky channels. Just press "3" and then choose then Sky One option. You may have to hold for a long time (ten, fifteen minutes) but it's free. And you'll have to do this tomorrow because the lax customer service now provided only exists 9am-5pm.
