We are living in a democracy now some would argue but my point is , why does Socrates think a democracy is the wrong way to go to find the Ideal State as he put it? He knew that there would be corruption and demoralization if society turned in this particular direction how did he know and we didn't?

Socrates was an anti-pluralist in the sense that he believed that when the masses become too involved in government, mob law, mob justice, and mob rule prevail. Republics are OK in his view because a Republic represents the people while having those representatives responsible to those they represent. In addition, he sees the masses as being too sensitive and tempermental to cultural and political shifts. When the potential for panicky decision making is always on the horizon, government doesn't work that effectively. To Socrates, letting the masses get involved directly makes government too cluttered and too slow.

finally! One individual understood the excellence! Rain guy have been given it real. right this is the deal: Totalitarian/Authoritarian governments VS democratic governments; Constitutional monarchies VS Republics. A democracy is a political REGIME the place individuals of the government and of the parliament are elected. the administrative branch may be composed of people of the parliament (it fairly is the parliamentary regime) or be promptly appointed with the help of elections (including in presidential regimes). A Republic is a sort of STATE the place the pinnacle of the state is elected rather of being appointed by way of different procedures. in spite of the incontrovertible fact that, the pinnacle of the state may be a monarch, as in constitutional monarchies.

It is called mental gymnastics.
A person is either positive or negative, and active or passive.
A genius is able to adopt all of those points of view, borrow them so to speak, follow their specific arguments and see where it takes him.
This is a real teacher!
