I have all of his books. When it comes to culture & religion, he was by far, the best..far more thorough and comprehensive than Campbell or Smith. There is no one in his league, today.

well.. first of all I'm Romanian and this makes it much easier for me to understand his novels.. and his way of thinking.. he is by far, one of my idols when it comes to culture... I like the fact that he wasn't limited by the romanian literary stereotypes of that time when he lived in Romania.. I also appreciate a lot the fact that he does write his novels based on his personal experience..
I haven't read much of his scientifical studies, only the Sacred and the Profane, but i really liked it.. I'm doing a project now on his universality in the romanian culture.. and not to forget.. his first novel.. the one he wrote being an adolescent and that was published only 60 years later.. it was really astonishing..

Eliade has profoundly influenced my thinking about religion and culture. He has helped me to see difference between religious type thinking and scientific type thinking, and that they are both essential parts of the human mind. There are religious-type beliefs that are not part of organized religion, but are nevertheless held sacred.
A lot of problems arise when people treat religious belief as if it were subject to scientific thinking, and science as if it had the qualities of religion.

Many people dislike him, but he is not only a great influence, but also a great mind in religion analysis.
