Acadia- MAINE. and that's because I'm prejudiced, I live here.
It is beautiful, you have never seen anything like it. So peaceful, gorgeous, and lots to do. Cadillac Mountain is the first place in the US to see the sunrise. Just check out the photos, you will fall in love. Best times are July and August.

I've only been to a few. Big Bend National Park in west Texas is my favorite. It's in the desert and has some neat cactus and other plants. You have mountains made of spectacular rock formations. There are deep canyons and yes the Rio Grande River which forms our border with Mexico. Parts of the river are shallow. In other areas it forms canyons with 400 foot rock cliffs. There's also abundant wildlife.
The neatest thing for me was being near the top of a mountain watching it snow with Mexico in the distance.

For me, Shenandoah National Park in Virginia is heaven on earth. It is the most exquisite place, and they have a little motel in the park and when you wake up in the morning, the park is covered in mist, which is beautiful, but the amazing thing about the morning is the deer! The deer will graze right in front of your balcony, they are so close that you could almost touch them.
It is a truly magical place.

The Great Smoky Mountains. There is so much to do there, you could not get it all done if you stayed for a month. Hiking, biking, helicopter rides, bungee jumping, indoor sky diving, shopping, golf... I could go on and on. Rent a cabin and stay at least a week.
