When you know your stuff and your knowledge is in demand, they'll lay off the "corporate" look..or.."dressed for success" look.
I know a multi-millionaire that shows up like he's going golfing, executives too. They know when to "dress-up" and when to be lax.
So, what's appropriate?....depends on your company and your status.

If you're talking about the yashmaks that Muslim women wear, I think that virtually they aren't acceptable. However, if you get with the right company, they may understand and allow it. I once worked with a Muslim lady, on retail level though, and she was able to wear her yashmak all the time. She was the store manager. So I think it depends on whether a company accepts it or not. There are some out there who do.....I'm sure.
