Free speech is used by everyone in this country. When you don't like what someone has to say, you can say so yourself. You can call a shrew a shrew, as in the case of Ann Coulter, or are free to complain about Bill Maher saying Cheney needs to be dead. Whatever. This could be turned around right now on ultra cons, who screech like a banshee when anyone uses less than flattering words about our President. Stop accusing libs of hating free speech, they react the same way to it that conservatives do - it's okay until it offends someone and then people bite back. It's all part of the process and everyone uses free speech to their advantage, not just libs. People can be sued for slander in this country, and it isn't just libs who take advantage of that fact either.

You're right. You also have to deal with the consequences. I hope someone beats the living h*ll out of Ann Coulter. I will personally send her a black cut out of a heart while she's in the hospital. Free speech is limited. Making untrue statements about someone is called slander. Call a lawyer, he will tell you about it.

I think anyone can say what they want, but there are consequences to everything we do, including what we say.

A person is free to engage in libel or slander... in defaming someone else, but there's potential consequences to that. If there weren't, I could tell your wife that you've been sleeping with other women... I could tell your boss that you've been stealing from the company, I could tell your friends that you're a paedophile... and you'd have no recourse.

On yahoo, personal attacks aren't allowed. You can't call another poster an f'n something-or-other, you can't use racially charged language against someone, and you can't make derogatory statements about another poster.

You can attack ideas, but you can't make personal attacks directed at individual posters.

Rather, you can, but you have to accept the consequences of doing so.

I think you have that backwards. You see it's the Republicant's that are tapping phones without warrants and going to war to prevent war. And it's also the Republicant's who try to restrict free speech and speaking out against the government not the "libs" as you say.

The actions of this president and his administration make it obvious that none of them have every even read the constitution, let alone know what it means.

Come on, bro, there's even a limit to free speech.

As often as I disagree with ck, he's got this one nailed.

Hateful is one thing. Untrue slander is another. YOu cannont intentionally defame another person and not have any consequences.

The constitution is a document limiting govt power, not individual recourse for malicious accusations.

The USSC agrees with me, not with your ignorant cons

I also understand stupidity and this should not be tolerated in a democracy .
We should go back to the days when only men voted and we had a literacy test for voters .
Only intelligent individuals should decide what is needed for the masses .
Left to decide among themselves the masses end result is nothing is done properly .
This is what happened by allowing to much freedom and not enough reality checks .
