My iPod doesn't sync songs?

Question

Well my iPod has been having a few malfunctions and now i tried restoring it and it won't sync any songs onto my iPod. I think it's the hardrive of the iPod because when I turn it on to it make this weird scratchy like noise. I put my ear near the back and hear this scratchy noise too. Also, I have a Windows Vista so does that affect the iPod in anyway at all? Should I try to fix it or should I just buy a new one?

Well there was something on the news a couple of weeks ago that said Windows Vista had been messing with the iPod software. Itunes said to just wait a while so they could get a new version of Itues out or some junk like that.
