I would sign it. Driving is not a right, it is a privilege. And if you can't afford insurance you can't afford a car. Driving is also the most dangerous thing that people do.

I would sign it. I disagree with an earlier post about not being able to recoup the cost. If they will be auctioning off the cars the money could put towards paying for damages of the insured if they are in a wreck or if they just get pulled over with no insurance then all of the money from the auction would be put toward the program. That would be a better punishment than a 400.00 ticket. As far as I can see it is a win win situation.

I agree to a point. I think a seizure is a little harsh, but impounding the car for a set time, say 30 days or 60 days would have a simular effect. Who would want their car impounded for 2 months. Now subsequent offenses could lead to seizure. Seizure for a first offense would also be unfair to someone who made a mistake, for example, the check bounces, or someone simply forgot and their insurance lasped. These are not excuses and their should be a punishment, but to loose your car for being careless is a little harsh, now that said if you are found to be drivig without insurance 3 times, that is serious and you deserve having your car siezed.

I would sign it. While living in Atlanta, I was once rear ended by an illegal Mexican immigrant with no insurance; needless to say I had to pay out of pocket.. Luckily I was able to take him to small claims court and file a civil suit. Not only did I get my 3,250 back but I sued for another 2000 in distress and time lost.
Accordingly, two months later I was rear ended again, by a person with no insurance again, this time, I said the hell with it, and bought a new car. So I can personally understand your frustration

Well as far I am concerned if you drive any moter vehicle then YOU must have insurance it's madness if you don't. And the law says you have to have insurance incase of accidents, car theft and so on. So yes I would sign the petition no insurance no vehicle.

Sorry I wouldnt sign it, I guess I just dont care about it. I have been in three accidents one was my car going off road in northern ohio in the winter time nobody else involved, having insurance kept me out of trouble when the state trooper showed up. One was where a mexican put his truck in the wrong gear and backed over my car at a traffic light, he had no insurance, and no papers, and fled the scene only to come back an hour later with a translator to tell the cops I rear ended him. Lucky me the video footage from the traffic light showed him backing into me. Third I hit a deer on I-70 coming from Pittsburgh through Ohio, destroyed cars front end, got the police report called insurance they came out and investigated took pictures of my car and decided they couldnt cover my accident. So what do I care about insurance.

I would sign that petition. By the way, I've also been in 2 accidents where the driver didn't have insurance. It's no irony that the people that are too irresponsible to get insurace, are also the wreckless bastards most likely to get into an accident.

That would most likely be seen as a violation of due process as applied to the states through the 14th amendment. It is unlikely a state could pass this although I like your thinking. I would suggest a petition to force the DMV to more thoroughly check insurance of its drivers and periodically check to verify.

Doesn't your car insurance cover drivers that don't have insurance? Mine does. I do agree with you tho cause liability isn't expensive. We had it for $106 dollars every 6 months which is better than paying damages out of your pocket.

I don't have a problem with the vehicle being impounded. But I don't believe the vehicle should be sold without a legal process to change ownership beforehand.
