In what year of college does one traditionally purchase the class ring? And is it customary to continue to wear the high school ring until that point?

I've never heard of anyone buying a class ring in college. Most of the people I know stopped wearing their high school rings after the end of their freshmen year when they moved more into college life than high school life.

Once you are fairly certain you will graduate in a specific year. A lot of people don't bother.
