15th April 1912 in the North Atlantic. The California was the closest ship to the site but misunderstood the distress flares and didn't investigate further (I've often wondered how the captain of that ship managed to live with himself once he found out the next day).
The Carpathia did steam twoards the Titanic but was four hours out which was too late for most of the passengers and crew.

It never really did... it was only a scam by the American Government so that they could try to invade the bottom of the Atlantic Ocean... apparently
