There are two verbs for "to be" in Spanish, ser and estar. Ser can be used for permanant conditions, and estar for temporary. (Although it is actually more complicated than this, this is the easiest way to think of it.)

"Es" is the third person singular of ser, as in "he/she/it is". The full conjugation is soy, eres, es, somos, son, as in "I am", "you are", "he/she/it is", "we are" and "they are".

The conjugation of estar is estoy, estas, esta, estamos, estan, with the persons in the same order as for ser.

So I suppose the other word for "es" would be "esta", if you're talking about changing verbs. If you're talking about changing persons, reference the full conjugation, although techincally these would translate as "am" or "are".
