Why not ? He is a living icon to the oppressed anywhere on the planet. He is someone who has suffered for his beliefs and sacrificed many years of his life. This sacrifice has not been in vain as we have seen South Africa rise from the swamp of totalitarianism and the barbarism that went with it. As a subject to be learnt, one of the spin offs is that : when is one a freedom fighter or just a terrorist ? This is the philosophical question facing all of us in the 21st. century. Wouldn't it be great to study that unit with Nelson, himself as our professor.

One hopes that when you learn about Nelson Mandela you also learn about the atrocities that happened in South Africa under apartheid rule. The problems South Africa has today are part of the fall-out of having lived so many years with apartheid rule.
