Look on the battery where the cables connect. Is there corrosion? Do you see a white(ish) powdery looking substance there? If so, pour some Coke or Pepsi on it. It'll take it RIGHT off, and quick. If not, it's probably your battery or alternator. Can you turn your lights on when it won't start? Does it turn over when it won't start? If the lights come on but it won't turn over try this; Turn your inside light on and your radio on. Try to start it. When you try to start it, if your radio goes off, lights go off, and everyone that runs off the battery goes off, it's your battery. If not, you've got some other (probably major, like the alternator) problems that should be checked ASAP before they get worse.

If the lights come on then it is not the battery. There is a number of reasons that a car won't start besides the battery. Usually if it starts when it wants to you can usually find the culprit to be the neutral safety switch. You did not give us much to go on, no mention of what kind of car. Good luck

Take your car to a parts place like autozone and they will do a load test on the battery. Clean the battery terminals and the battery clamps on the cables also.
