I understand that Majors are higher that Captains and Corprals, but where does a sargent fit in? Is there something between General and Cornel? What about a Luitenent? I know I've made spelling mistacks, but I've only seen these terms, not read them. Can you tell me how the ranks go in order from lowest to highest?

There are two ranking systems. One for enlisted one for officers
enlisted ranks in the Marine Corps start at: Private, Private First Class, Lance Corporal, Corporal, Sargent, Staff Sargent, Gunnery Sargent, Master Sargent, Sargent Major.
The army is similar except for names of ranks in specialties.
The Airforce I'm not sure of;
Navy is also different.

Officer ranks; 2nd lieutenant, 1st Lieutenant, Captain, Major, Lieutenant Colonel, Colonel, Brigadier General, Major General, Lieutenant General, General
The services except the Navy have these rankings for officers. So these rankings correspond to the officers in MASH because they are ARMY Doctors

Corporals are low on the chain. I was Air Force and it's a bit different, but I think it goes Private, PFC (Private 1st Class), then Corporal.

Sargeants are NCO's (non-commissioned officers). They come after Corporal. And there's several ranking of Sargeants.

Commissioned Officers starts with a 2nd Luitenant, 1st Luitenant, Captain, Major, Lt. Colonel, Colonel, then there's 4 ranks of Generals. (Brigadier Gen., Lt. Gen., Major Gen. & General) General being the highest.

By the way, M*A*S*H is a great show!! One of my all-time favs!

This is a great series. I bought the "Martinis And Medicine" collection with the entire series and the original movie. Final episode still remains one of my favorites.

You have what is called Enlisted and Officers in the Military. To be an Officer you have to have a college degree. Your Enlisted Chain of command in M.A.S.H. are:
Corporals
Seargents.

Officers Chain of Command goes as follows:
Lieutenants (Bars..Bronze 2nd Lt.....Silver 1st Lt.)
Captains ( Double Silver Bars)
Majors (Bronze Leaf)
Lieutentant Coronal (Silver Leaf)
Coronal (Silver Eagle)
General (Silver Star)
(Generals receive stars based on their level of rank)
Brigadere General ( 1 Star)
Major General (2 Stars)
Lt. General (3 Stars)
General (4 star)
Highest rank is a 5 star General ( Given only during wartime)

The main difference is knowing who is enlisted and who is an officer. If the soldier has stripes on their sleeve, collar or on their helmet they are enlisted, if the have an insignia listed above they are an officer...
Hope this helps

You have "Non-Commissioned Officers" this the sergents.
You have "Commissioned Officers" this captains and generals etc.
ALL Commissioned Officers out rank the Non-Commissioned Officers.

OK, I will be using your spelling just to be fair! (hehe)
corporal
luitenent
sargent
captain
general
cornel
I think this is how it goes in rank from low to highest, but never being in any type of military I cannot be positive.
