her onto her back when I see she has rolled. She wakes up when I roll her over and I can't sleep becasue I am constantly checking to make sure she hasn't gone on her stomach. Do I need to relax and let her sleep how she's comfortable? Another thing, my daughter loves blankets and she sleeps so much better when she has one to hold. I try to make sure that they are breathable and tuck them into the sides of the crib. My mother in law told me last night that at this point if she can't breathe she will move. Do you think that's true? My in laws watch her alot and don't take me seriously, so when I come home often she has a blanket loose in the crib.

Why are you concerned about her sleeping on her stomach? Let her sleep however she is comfortable. Your mother in law is right. The risk of SIDS is gone now, so a blanket is OK. SIDS is linked to a defect in the brain where a child will not physically respond to the dangers of suffocation. If she can roll over, there is no reason for you to worry about blankets being loose in the crib. She will be fine, relax.

I have been EXACTLY where you are! Constantly worried. My baby is 10mo today & I don't think I slept the first 8 months of his life. We got the breathable bumper pads too. Never let him have a blanket.....
Now we just put him in bed with us & all 3 of us have our own blanket, my husband & I use seperate covers so they won't be stretched out across the baby, but we give the baby his favorite blankie to sleep with.
I DO know what you're saying about your in-laws, I could write pages on that subject, but I'll just say this- no matter how much they get on our nerves, no matter how much they don't take us seriously (boy have I been there!), no matter how much they do things differently with our children than we want them to do, they love these babies VERY much and would never do anything to hurt them. They have raised kids & taken care of grandkids & even though we don't like it, they know what they're doing, lol.
I have always been quiet & agreeable, all my life, til I had a baby, now I go "round & round" with my dad & stepmom about my baby.
Just hang in there. Time truly does fly by & a few months from now you'll look back on how worried you were right now & know it was for nothing. :-)

She should be fine, if she is happy on her back then leave her there. My daughter did the same thing with the blankets, and she is 14, still doing it too, lol. If you daughter is reaching all her milestones, then for the most part, she will wake herself up if she has a problem breathing. Think about this, she wakes up when you roll her over. I too worried about the breathing until, maybe last week, okay, not that recently, but, it seemed it. Its hard to turn off the worry. I used the monitor, and would check on her constantly.

Just don't give her a pillow.

Once your little one can roll over chances of SIDS decreases dramatically. My son also sleeps with a blanket, he likes to play with it when he wakes up the middle of the night!
I would say stop worrying but since I know thats not going to happen (worrying is part of the mommy gig) just try to relax.

My son always preferred to sleep on his belly from an early age, and yes, they can and will move their head if something gets in the way of them breathing. Just be sure her blanket does'nt get trapped over her head. Have you tried those mini-security blankets? They are soft and snuggly for your little one to hold, but are too small to suffocate. Most baby stores sell them, even Target. Relax, she'll be fine.

She's strong enough that you do not need to roll her over when she rolls. My doctor told me the same thing as your MIL told you, so it's true. We used a breathable bumper around the same time, but that was more becuse he moved so much his little arms and legs would go through the slats and wake him up, so we used a breathable bumper to keep them in.

It's ok Mom just relaxe she will be fine first time Mom seem to over react and that is alright and a good thing. All my kids liked blankets too.And yes if she is not comfortable she will move, mom in-law is right on this one.

By the time a baby is 7 months old they know how they like to sleep. My daughter always rolls over to sleep on her belly.
don't worry about it......you'll have a happier baby if you stop disturbing her sleep to put her in a position that your comfortable with. Her sleep is about her comfort not yours.

At this age she has the body strength to move herself away from anything which is obstructing her breathing. So relax, sleep and don't worry!
The suggestion to put babies only on their backs is for small babies who cannot roll over or prevent themselves from being suffocated.

the human race would've died out if babies were completely helpless to move if something is blocking their breathing.. by 7 months, the baby can move if it needs to.. our baby is 7 months and he's always rolling onto his face at night, and he's fine.. just don't have him sleeping on a pillow yet..
