A cocoa color would be fashionable and add warmth to the room. 10 years ago I started using darker colors against much advice to stick with lighter colors. I find the darker shades to be warmer and add to the entire ambiance of the room. Even darker shades in the bathroom add depth, so in a living room it will be fantastic. My living room is now a dark shade of pumpkin and I get compliments all of the time. Last color was a dark green and that, too, was a conversation piece. Good luck.

I'd go with either a neutral like beige if I have alot of accents in other colors in the room, or I'd pick a deep color that I really like for one wall and paint the rest a lighter shade of the original (add 1 or 2 parts white or beige to original) or pick a lighter shade from the same paint strip you get from the store. Many stores have the paint strips that show 4 or 5 shades on one strip.

I have a very similar situation with tan and brown couches. Me and my wife went back and forth on what color to paint our living room. I wanted a greenish color and she wanted a neutral cream color. We actually decided upon a compromise. We installed a chair rail and had a mossy type green on the bottom with a beige or cream color above the chair rail.
I would check out online color wheels (like at www.benjaminmoore.com) before you go and get paint samples. It is easy, can be done at home, and you can view thousands before you go into a paint store.

I would say defiantly not cream or tan or anything like that. That would blend too much and be absolutely boring for the eye. If you do want something with a brown base though, there are really pretty browns that have some green in them too. Do not pick a brown with a gray base stick to warmer colors.

Depends on how large and how many windows. I like warm colors. Some of the new orange or green colors would be nice if your room is large and bright. If it is small and doesn't have much natural light, I would go with a beige or cream with some nice accent pieces.

I would paint it a cream color! It would look nice with the brown.
If you have a big room then you might want to make it a darker cream. It depends on what you think looks nice and what your tastes are!
