i can read, i just cant listen to rap.

ANY music that you like will stop your brain from absorbing what you're reading. Try a soft, classical instrumental, it'll calm you and allow you to absorb what you're reading as oppose to reading one paragraph over and over again because your subliminal mind is focused on the words of your favorite songs!

I can't listen to rap music at all.
I can only listen to instrumental music when I read.
Lyrics pull me away from what I'm reading.

I read and listen all the time, just not anything serious. Magazine articles and stuff.
