If you're a teacher or in university, you will get an educational discount whether you buy through your uni or from the Apple Store directly (both online and in a brick and mortar store). If you are buying online, look for the "More Stores" area in the righthand column and click on "Education." Once in the Education store, the prices you see will reflect the discount.

If you do not qualify for an educational discount, ring your closest Apple Store (link below) and ask if they have any "refreshed" (bought and then returned) Mac Pros, or any that used to be floor models. In either case, they would be discounted. Otherwise, the online Apple Store will periodically have refurbished ones at a discount as well. You are unlikely to find the £2000 model you want at £1400, but you'll still save money.

Remember that you can easily add RAM and/or additional hard drives by yourself later, so if you're low on funds, buy less than what you want, and add when you can.

Your display will almost certainly work as Mac Pros use standard DVI connections.

I wouldn't advise buying a Mac from anywhere but an Apple store or authorized reseller. It makes any issues that come under warranty a lot easier to sort out.

You can use any display with your Mac Pro as long as it supports DVI, which most newer displays do.

Usually universities have tie-ups with big computer companies like Apple, Microsoft and Dell etc. Students get discounted prices for computers and software.
