Iraq's Mandaeans 'face extinction'

The Sabian Mandaeans - one of the oldest religious groups in the world - are facing extinction. Islamic extremists in Iraq are trying to wipe them out through forced conversions, rape and murder.

The Mandaeans are pacifists, followers of Adam, Noah and John the Baptist.

They have lived in what is now Iraq since before Islam and Christianity.

More than 80% have been forced to flee the country and now live as refugees in Syria and Jordan.

Under Saddam these people existed without threat. Is this the Freedom and Democracy we brought to them.

When are you Conservatives gonna accept that we have ruined a stable country?

I remember that shortly before the war Bush & Co. were predicting that all the Iraqis would rejoice over Saddam's overthrow and that peace and stability would be restored in no time. Has anyone else in our government ever been so wrong?!

Humanist my friend for the sake of argument me agreed Saddam is a scumbag just like Hitler.

The area never know about western democracy which is wrong for us to force this viewpoint. In my true heart, I do not think Iraq will be a free democratic republic in our image. I hate to tell the truth but it will never happen in my lifetime. This area is full of vendetta.

If we had allowed him to live he would have eventually wiped out the rest of the nation and those around him so I say we've given them a chance they wouldn't have gotten otherwise. And as for you stable county, I will never understand where you came from with that one!
