You make a lot of sense to me. American have , in my opinion, always double standards on everything and I might add that that's because of their churches interpreting god's words in their own way to suit their own purpose and create a seeming difference between Christianity and other faiths of the world. I'm no expert of the Bible and to be honest I haven't read it entirely but is it not true that Adam created Eve and this is how the human race came into being? That means all brothers and sisters must have mated to keep the reproduction going. So what's the problem is cousins marriages? One of my own friend married to his cousin and they have two healthy beautiful children. I see no scientific evidence that same blood marriages create weaker of springs.

I love how you made the progressive position someone who defends cousin-marriage, and made the backwards (i.e. "back-water") position the counterintuitive opponent, because that metaphor really is about the tragedy of the poor confined to one small source of water, which, like a small gene pool, can get polluted and cause noticeable degeneration...
I don't however care either way. If siblings and parent-children couples want to get together, go for it. Use contraception. But I'm hardly enthusiastic about protesting, lobbying, or voting on the issue.
If there's laws against post-mortem cannibalism, those are "backwards" too. And consensual bestiality. And necrophilia, and NAMBLA, and marijuana, and highways with speed limits, and stem cell research,
and lets cover the desert with solar panels, and put LSD in the water, and use bicycle everywhere, and teach children the truth, and take back public television, and storm every gated community, and everyone will learn sign language, braille, morse code and Cantonese, and we'll string our hands together across the nation with our libertine spirit, naked as nature, ready to harmonize with our eternal freedom. Amen.

If we're talking first cousins, it is definitely a more taboo subject. I think in some states it may be allowed, but some not. And the reasoning is possible problems that could arise if they should try to procreate. This really is not the same as gay marriage and interracial marriage.

My objection to close inter-family marriages is largely biological. Children born to parents who are first cousins have a much greater chance of inheriting genetic disorders than do children born to unrelated (or distantly related) parents. The same genetic principles apply to all animals, and can very clearly be seen in pure-bred (also in-bred) domesticated animals, such as dogs. Just as a pure-bred dog is more likely to have epilepsy, cataracts, or a week heart, an in-bred human is more likely to suffer from any number of painful and/or life threatening conditions. Like all family medical information, this is something that people must take into consideration before committing themselves to a relationship that is likely to produce children.

I don't think you can compare interracial marriages with cousins marrying, it's a completely different issue. If anything an interracial marriage is better, as it spreads the gene pool. Which can only ever be a good thing.

I agree with your arguments 100%.
The only problem here is with reproduction. Your children have a greater risk of inheriting your familys genetic flaws.
Are you first cousins? This is the bigger problem.
But you can consider artificial insemination or adoption if you desire to raise children.
As far as I am concerned, there is nothing wrong with your love. Just think of the children.
Good luck to you both!!

genetically it is a very bad idea to breed with a close relative as any recessive genes will be made more dominate leading to lower iq's and more birth defects. This is the reason these types of unions are frowned upon. It is not to punish the couple but to prevent unnecessary suffering in potential offspring.

A cousin is a part of the family. No one should want to marry their cousin and if they do, they need help. If it's the 4th cousin, what the hell? 1-3 are off limits.

Cousins are supposed to love each other, your FAMILY, and coincidental that is why it's wrong. It's called Inbreeding. and if it's so right then why are you looking for validation?
Also if the gay couple were brothers, people would gripe. Why? ITS INBREEDING.
