Making "a" the subject of the formula: S = a/4 + 8u.

First of all, making a letter a subject means isolating that letter from other letters + numbers.

1) Move 8u to the other side with the S through subtraction.
S - 8u = a/4 + 8u - 8u (Negative and positive cancels the 8u on this side of the equation.)
S - 8u = a/4

2) Multiply the whole equation with 4.
S (4) - 8u (4) = a/4 (4)
4S - 32u = a. (Because 4 canceled out.)

Most people prefer switching the a around so it would be on the left. You can simply rewrite it as a = 4s - 32 u.

Solved. :)

I always though making the subject of the foumula was like this for example

With this forumla a=tab

A=37.2 t-3.14 a=6

b > xt > xa = A
b < *t < *a < A

> and < are equavilant to arrows sorry.
basically I wlays wrote what you did in one line with little arrows and then did it backwards underneath starting from A then going to b. Then I would change the forumla so where it is times t I would do divide by t and so on. Its easy to get your head round when you can do it. Good Luck!
