I know that a lot of people on this board, particularly Americans are strongly opposed to cousin marriages. But don't you realize that these are the same type of people who once also opposed interracial marriage and until very recently homosexual marriages? But now, if you were to ask a question regarding interracial or gay marriage, they will all start talking in support of it. Why?

It is indeed shocking to find that Americans despite being technologically advanced, are still socially backwards and fighting age-old stereotypes. I mean it's ok if you think marriage between cousins is wrong, but who are you to police two cousins who truly love each other and want to spend the rest of their lives together? The same way if you think being gay is wrong, but you don't want to force your view on two gay people who are in love with each other - right?

Here's the problem - a cousin is a family member. They share the same genes. If the family is predesposed to genetic diseases, then the kids would get a double dose of deformity.

By contrast, interracial marriages mix two totally different gene pools - the best of the dominant genes of both parents mix (that's why so many biracial people are so attractive and talented - Halle Berry, Tiger Woods, Barak Obama, Mariah Carey, Alicia Keys ect) - it's the reverse of cousin marriage.

As for gay marriage - genetic deformity isn't even an issue, because two men can't have kids together, nor can two women - you must have a man and a woman in the mix to make a baby.

I don't think is wrong to marry a cousin, and i think people should start being more open minded when it comes to love. Love between cousin, interracial love or homosexual love any type of love (as long as it's respectful and pure) is always right. And i completely agree, society has to stop being socially backward and start fighting the really old and ridiculous stereotypes. If people start accepting each other, perhaps it would be a solution to end wars and stop chaos.

I am sorry if this offends you but to marry a cousin to me is no different that marrying a brother or sister. I dont think that marrying any relative is appropriate. I think it is wrong to say if you are against incestual marriages that you are also against gay and inter-racial marriages. I think both of those are fine. There is a couple in my town who are cousins. Their kids are tormented every single day by the other kids, as hard as it is to stop them it goes on when parents arent around. Two of the kids have severe learning disabilities. One of them also have some physical disabilities, and their third and younges past away at the age of 6. So, if you want to marry your cousin, than have at it but please dont have any children. Its not fair to them.

Well the reason most see it wrong is cause when they have children the chances of the kids coming out with issues increases with inbreeding. Even though this kind of act use to happen repeatedly society sees it wrong for that reason

This isn't a question about cousins marrying, it's a remark about American values. You don't agree with American values. Well, too bad, so sad. We are the big dog, the only super power in the world. We must be doing something right. You can't control us, and that bugs you to no end. Tough! Go tell your sob story to one of your fellow countrymen, someone who will automatically agree with you as you wish.

I don't think it's wrong, but I do think it's gross. And maybe that is because I was raised in America. But I also think raping, murder, genocide, cutting people's hands and heads off are wrong and barbaric, but hey, that's just me.
