That is the timeless enigma.
Consider this, in the word "LIFE", what is the middle word within?
Yes, it is "if".
The point being (and follow me here), that we are born with the free will to choose any path in life.
We can choose to be a productive member of the society we live in...for example, a doctor who finds a cure for cancer.
Or, we can choose to be a swacked-out wino or drug addict, with no redeemable qualities.
And it is all based on what we choose for ourselves: "if" you choose this, then that happens.
There is no book or manual to give you guidance on what your purpose is (additional note, below).
Its all open for you to decide.
"IF" you choose to take the time to make something of yourself, help your fellow humans and not worry about rewards.
THAT is the reason for living...in my opinion.
Additional note:
For me, the stories in Torah (the Bible) are a good road-map on ways to behave (and not to behave) as a human being.
Lots of excellent examples in the Five Books of Moses on people with good and bad qualities, good and bad choices.

procreation is a steaming pile of crap... a religious lie. the reason for living is to be peaceful, kind, loving and looking to grow as a human being... the RESULT of this is happiness... the pursuit of happiness is 100% a failure which is why our material world is totally screwed up and miserable.
HAPPINESS is a by-product of living the right way.

Oh dear what a pessimist ...I love living, seeing the world experiencing being loved by another human being, having children and watching them grow old watching plants grow in the garden, my cat chasing a ball of wool and listening to some wonderful music, you must be a teenager?????

In my opinion,
The personal reason to live is to be happy. Enjoyment, peace, contentment, fulfillment, etc.
The greater, ultimate, absolute, or "divine" purpose of living is simply because. There is no other purpose than to live and to die.
So, go with happiness.

Learn all that is learn-able, help those that are in need, respect all life so long as said life respects you, and always think positive, thus mankind will one day become an intelligent and non-hostile species...

To do good, be a friend, if you want to get exact.
Sunrises, sunsets, warm summer days, flowers, snow, Christmas, dreams, good food, soft sweaters, puppies, laughter, the list is enormous.
