Fact: Many qualified translators, Infantry, Marines etc have been discharged under DADT.

Fact: The U.S. currently needs qualified translators, Infantry, Marines etc.

Fact: Israel, UK, Canada, etc all have openly gay servicemen and women in combat without any detrimental effect to units cohesion (a favourite argument used by right wingers)

Fact: Many of the greatest military leaders and armies of the past were comprised of Homosexuals (Caesar, Alexander, Ptolemy, Augustus, the Spartans, The Athenians.......)

Fact: The U.S. is foolish to waste potential resources in getting rid of the very people they need, simply because some bigot in the congress or more importantly, the white house believes it's against Biblical teaching.

Fact: DADT makes America look very foolish.

One other thing, to hardtimes: for someone who's description states the mind is a window to the world....do yourself a favour, open it and take a good look at what's really out there. I won't report you, but you are a fool.

Edit: to Tom S, the most effective military in the world, the Israelis, have had gays serving openly for over 10 years, so do your homework before making such asinine statements. This goes for WRF as well. God you people really are that stupid aren't you.

This ban displays a paranoid homphobic nature that our country seems to be suffering from and is nothing less than a form of gay bashing. Our country and it's leaders should be ashamed.

Polls have shown that a large majority of the American public favors allowing gays and lesbians to serve openly in the US military. A national poll conducted in May 2005 by the Boston Globe showed 79% of participants having nothing against openly gay people from serving in the military. A Pew Research Center survey conducted in March 2006 showed that 60% favor allowing gays and lesbians to serve openly in the military, with 32% opposed.

DADT is ridiculous. It doesn't stop gay people from being in the military, it just makes them hide who they truly are, which is one stress no soldier should have to live with. I think gay people are just as good, or bad, at soldiering as any straight guy or girl. Being gay has nothing to do with your ability to do well in the military. I think DADT just fosters more homophobic behavior than it helps soldiers who are gay. After all, if a soldier is found out to be gay they are still kicked out. It's stupid and a waste of time and resources that could be used elsewhere instead of worrying if Joe or Jill Soldier is sleeping with someone of the same sex. Our military needs to grow up and stop playing these playground name games.

yes they should be allowed to serve openly and proudly. just recently there was a report that the military has lowered its standards to get people to enter the millitary. now they are letting in criminals with lower IQ's. they could keep the standards high and get the people they need by letting gay people to serve. untill they realize this and change the policy the military will always fall short of getting the best people available.

They are already in the military.

Personally any one who chooses to fight and die for this country has my respect and my support, I don't give a hoot or hell about who they are, what color, sex or faith.

Every American Military cemetery is filled with True Americans, and if some one can justify that being gay makes a person in that cemetery less of a hero then I would gladly call them a liar and a fool to their face.

Should Don't ask don't tell be eliminated? absolutely.

But will it? Even I am practical enough to know that won't happen anytime soon.

I always saw the Dont' Ask Don't Tell policy as a bridge to acceptance. The next phase should be the ending of attempts to discharge and prosecute individuals who are gay. One of the biggest hurdles to overcome is that the military regulations will need to be rewritten. Of course as it is worded right now any straight individuals who participate in oral sex is also in violation of the same military regulations.

We are already in the military. We've always been in the military. I think we should be allowed to be open though. I served and a few of my fellow soldiers knew, They didn't have a problem with it. Heck, I had to work with them, I certainly didn't want any of them and they knew it. Something that homophobes need to realize is that the average Gay man is far more selective about who they want than the average straight man is.

Should is irrelevant, as a 20 year navy man and military retiree I can assure they are there and always have been. DADT was nothing more than an attempt to cover it up. If nobody admits they're gay or bi, then you can deny they're there.

the militia won't be able to repeal the present gay coverage. it rather is a controversy of statutory regulation, and as much as Congress to play with. With that stated, the present coverage is a royal discomfort to handle for the commanders while it comes up (identifying while there is adequate data to commence a discharge, while they could look into, what they could look into, no longer a relaxing technique).
