Watching the tv is like looking at lights to her right now. she is probably fascinated with the different colors. if it keeps her happy for awhile, there is nothing wrong with either. Just watch her tv time when she gets older.
And yes a computer screen would have the same effect.

I think it looks totally safe, that is not an opening where the babies could stick their heads through, it's a mirror! (for pete's sake read the product description!!) I wouldn't worry about it coming apart, it obviously has to be made with baby rules and regulations in mind or they couldn't declare that it can be used with infants. The slots seem smaller than in cribs, but big enough that a baby who sticks their arm through can easily pull it back out. I would personally use it. Allow the nanny to use it for both children but make sure she supervises and if the older baby tends to crawl all over the younger, then she will need to use only one child at a time!

My 6 week old does the same thing. Im kinda worried also because if I stare at the same light it really hurts my eyes! I can't imagine what it does to them. He also loves the Tv. I try to keep him distracted from it because I read somewhere that if they watch Tv before they are two it effects brain development. I figure if they look happy when they watch the lights or Tv it can't be that bad for them.

This is completely normal and will not harm the baby at all. My son did the same thing at that age...looking at lights seemed like the only thing he liked then! I talked to my ped. about it and she laughed, saying that it was absolutely normal and a good sign of developmental alertness...he is becoming more aware of her environment. She said he would outgrow it when he was able to see more colors and interact with other things in his environment. She was right...he is 5 months now and couldn't care less about the lights or his beloved TV...now he just wants to hold things and stick them in his mouth! Have fun...they really do change so fast!

Do not let your kid watch tv at that young of an age. Lots of parents do it to shut the kid up, but at that age with their brains still developing the camera rate change will give your child a lower attention span. Basically if a child is raised on tv, they'll expect that action pace in life, not consciously but subconsciously and will have trouble with things that require a slower pace, like school.
As for lights, if your baby likes lights why not get him/her some children's toys with lower intensity coloured lights, that'll give him/her something to look at that you as a parent know is fine because it's tested for child safety. Another idea is to get some glow in the dark star stickers, place them on your ceiling so that when the child goes to bed he/she can look up at a faux star-filled sky.

Ah, babies...they are like moths to a flame when it comes to bright lights. I say it is safe, as long as she is not staring directly at a naked lightbulb. A lamp with a shade on it is fine, so is TV and computer monitor. It's a phase, they'll be onto bigger and better things soon! :)
