This is an article by NEWSWEEK about how Bush and his administration willingly and knowingly break Geneva convention rules of prisoners of war!

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/4989481/

How can we expect other countries to follow UN rules when we don't when it doesn't suit us!!

Wasn't Bush's last good excuse for invading Iraq that Iraq wasn't following UN rules????

EDIT: Interesting article---please take the time to read it!

I definitely agree. It's like when you're a kid and you change the rules of the game you're playing to benefit only yourself. "Oh, I know I just did that, but you can't."

Good article but a little outdated. There were many things debated out of desperation during that time that never were implemented.

However, if we play by the rules, shouldn't we expect our enemy to do the same?

Does this mean that we should summarily execute all detainees and disembowl them on internet video like our enemy? Should be kidnap and behead our detainees like our enemy does?

I would be on your side if this war were being fought like the conventional wars of the past but it's not. We are still more humane than anyone else in this theater of operations regardless of what you guys think. As a matter of fact, detainees would rather come with us than go with the IP's or the IA. At least they know we will take care of them. If I turn a Sunni over to the Iraqi Police, he knows he'll end up floating in the canal, somewhere. If I hand a Shiite over to the Iraqi Army, he knows he may never be heard from, again.

Kelly, we are MUCH more humane than anyone else. That's fact that gets used against us many times, too.

the fact is that the Geneva convention does not apply to these enemy combatants.
try doing some research before you take an article as Gospel.

I would never read Newsweek and I'm not surprised you do. Why is it you never have anything positive to say about America? I mean you bash the country and government constantly. Why do you live here if you think it's so awful? What exactly have you done to make things any better?

Geneva convention....let's see, I haven't read it but obviously you have. Can you tell me where it says it's legal to behead enemy soldiers, attack civilian centers with suicidal bombers/mortars/hand grenades, how about the video taping of enemy combatants being executed, rape and mutilate the bodies of slain soldiers....It must be a liberal mental disease to expect our military to follow the rules while our enemy refuses to.Interesting facts--please take the time to learn them before you spout out this tripe.

It doesn't...we have rules of engagement...we are not the ones beheading innocents on TV...we are not the ones shooting our fellow countrymen in the back of the heads over beliefs.( Though a few libs I wouldn't mind seeing it done to),,when our soldiers step out of line we hold them accountable....so as usual lies from the libbies to put our troops down...

Well duh! Why I was just sawing the head of a tango down at Gitmo the other day, and found out that Al Quaeda regularly prosecute and jail their troops for killing civilians!

Just in case it was missed, that was sarcasm. BTW, the Geneva Convention ONLY applies to countries engaged in war, not independent criminals that are engaged in torture and murder.

What countries are these POWs from? Do they represent these countries? Have you really looked into what a POW is? Or are you just flying off the handle without thinking?

Mommy, can I trust the government?" In any war, only the loser is prosecuted for war crimes. History is written by the victors.
