I picked my profession (computer programming) for the worst reasons -- it was easy in school and I just fell into it without thinking ahead. But I don't enjoy it. I really wish I had become a nurse, but it just is too hard to go back to school for 3+ years to accomplish that.

I think young people in high school and college need to spend much more time and effort thinking about what they want to do for the rest of their lives than I did. And I think their parents and school counsellors need to encourage them to do that. Your career makes a HUGE difference in what happens to you in life.

i used to be a contract equipment operator doing gas pipelines in Alberta Canada. i spent 3 weeks at -52 sitting on a machine and had some time to think about getting out. i went back to school and i now run a home based computer repair and network administration business. the money is about the same but i'm warm and home all the time.

This life is a do-it-yourself project. What works for one doesn't neccessarily work for another. My experiences are mine, yours are yours.

Go find yourself. Enjoy the journey.

If you are fulfilling your goals, great. If not, change.
