When I was in high school, in Columbine no less, I never had someone search me or scan me for weapons, such practices were unheard of because the kids I went to school with were not killers, oh we got into the occasional fist fight, but no mother had to cry herself to sleep because her baby died at school. What about you? Did metal detectors make you feel safer? What school more like prison? Or were you like me and didn't have to go through that. Thoughts? Tell Matticus he WANTS to KNOW>

My time was before all of this craziness. Before the taking of a life meant nothing to some of these kids. It was during the beginning of busing and tensions around that issue. I remember protesting during high school and the news wasn't going to report it because there was no violence. Even back then - it had to be the bad stuff to make the news.

I have metal detectors in my high school, and they make me feel safer. Before we got the metal detectors we had a shooting and someone got stabbed all in 5 months.

My school have metal detectors and security guards. It didn't bother me one way or the other. The security guards didn't do anything and the Metal detectors only worked like half the time.

my school did have metal detectors...and lots of security guards...I was living in a very bad area filled with gangs and crime. I also was present when fights were going on even when someone shot in the air...it was scary!

Sweetie, I was a child of the 60s.
We had no metal detectors.
Teens smuggled cigarettes onto campus.
One day a year, female were allowed to wear pants to school. On that day, we lived in fear of school buildings collapsing due to our attire.

Can't begin to tell you how sorry I am things have changed so drastically.

when i was in hs (last year) we didn't have a metal detector set up like when you first walk through the door... but occassionaly a principal or school security would come by each class and make them bring all their possesions into the hall way and search it... i think it is an invasion of privacy... especially for girls when it is that time of month... and they just pour all your things out onto the floor in front of everyone... its humilating... i think they should make this illegal

No. But having them is not only related to prisons, airports also have them, some stadiums, offices and more.
