Animals cannot communicate without physical contact, ie seeing or hearing each other. Humans can communicate across distances using technology.

The most important difference is that animals cannot relate an event where the other individual was not present. Even bees who can communicate to each other using 'dance' to show where nectar can be found, can only know where to find the nectar if they are present at the explicatory dance.

Finally, only humans have a 'theory of mind', and can communicate with an idea of what another person might be feeling or thinking.

I wouldn't say animals can't lie... They are, very much, able to manipulate, and scheme. Just like humans, it depends on their personality and their upbringing. But for the most part, they are open, honest and loving. No, they can't speak the way humans do, with actual speech patterns, but they do think with words... Their vocabulary resource isn't as vast as ours, but it is there.
