I recently changed my contraceptive pill, and was wondering if the effectiveness of it against pregnancy would be affected for a short while? Is it neccessary to use additional contraception for a few months until the new pill kicks in, or will it be effective immediately?Serious and relevant answers only please, thanks x

If you ran one pill straight on to the other, without the normal 7 day break, which is what most doctors advise on a pill change, then your cover is continuous. If however you took the 7 pill Free days and then started your new pill, then it is safest to use extra precautions, though these are only necessary for 2 weeks.

Any good GP would have taken care to explain this to you when he prescribed your new pill!

It should be effective immediately, but your doctor should have explained this to you before prescribing the pills to you.

If you went directly from one pill to another with no break in between (other than your period week), then no. Your body still will think its pregnant (which is how the pill works...by tricking your body into thinking it's pregnant), so it doesn't matter which chemical is doing that.
