I'm just curious as to what knowledge the Y!A community here has on who funded certain advancements .... so lets share! cite it if you can or if it needs it.. for no brainers no need and I'll start with one from the private and one from the government

Pure research in the biological sciences is supported by government funding at NIH (National Institute of Health). This is money devoted to science to fight human diseases. Without these funds, substantial inroads into a myriad of life threatening health problems would go unnoticed, unfunded. It is essential for the government to continue in its quest here.

Edison- almost completely responsible for all major advances in the 20th century (yes some of them were invented in the 19th)

light bulb, motion picture... etc.


Firesidechat: I think you're forgetting the entire drug industry. They work to do the same thing in the private sector.
