I find the Christian Science Monitor to be extremely well-researched and despite the potential implications of the name - not preach-y or judgemental at all. It has its own reporters and unlike most media outlets does not rely on wire services for its news. It is entirely non-corporate, and in my opinion one of the least biased independnet media outlets .. EVER. (whereas I find too many of the popular "indie" news outlets are too beholden to expressing a right wing or left wing bia as the case may be).

Honestly, I think CSMonitor is the BEST..

..And incidentally, I am not a Christian.

Define independent.

Complete unbais news doesn't exisit in this world any more.

We have reduce our news to supply us with 30 second sound bites that we are agree with and any news organization that disagrees with our views must be wrong.

Case in point mention Fox News to liberals and they call it Faux News they dare to show a conservative view point or other views than liberals.
CNN to conservative is the terrorist organization because the give time and sympath to Muslim terrorist.

So you want the real news here is what you are going to have to do and it won't be easy.
1. Buy a copy and read: Don't Believe It!: How Lies Become by Alexandra Kitty. You will find in the back a check list to measure a story how they are trying to spin it.

2. Listen to a varity of sources I suggest both CNN and Fox and NPR. NPR because they give more background information than you will find anywhere else.

3. Carefully think about what is being said and who is saying.

Now as far as #2 goes make sure you get different points of view instead of series of groups that are on the same side.

I know that people like the BBC but after they started with 9/11 conspicarcies again givening them credit. I put them on my watch list.

Good luck.

there isn't one. they are all "For profit" news services, which means they only answer to one source- the almighty dollar. whether that Dollar comes from the Liberal Left (CNN) or the Conservative Right (Fox), thats what determines the station's "Slant".

and even Public TV news services are goverment owned, so they'll have a slant based on the ruling aprty at that time.

good luck finding one.
