I like purchasing in person so I can see the animals/corals/inverts and get exactly what I want. I'm lucky to live in an area that has MANY such stores that carry saltwater -this may not be the case for everyone though!
I've had the chance to go the store mentioned in the first website - it's amazing! Plan on walking around for at least 3 hrs. and don't take a credit card (lol)! This place is the size of (actually, bigger than) a super WalMart. An that's just the dry goods. There's a fish ROOM, aquatic plant ROOM, pond ROOM, etc. - are you getting the picture? And the top people there have degrees in things like marine biology, so they have some idea of what the fish are and need. They do an online business as well and will take questions over the phone (probably by email too, but I haven't had the opportunity for that).
If you do business online, I'd try to find an outfit with photos of the actual animals for sale - a "get what you see" rather than a "one of this type". And make sure they have some kind of live delivery guarantee and a good return policy.
If you decide to try online, you might want to give these folks a look. Although I haven't dealt with these guys myself, I've heard nothing but favorable comments about them: http://www.liveaquaria.com/

MarineScape in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada.
It is co owned by 3 guys who grew up together.
2 of them are MARINE BIOLOGISTS.
They KNOW what they are talking about when asked questions.
If I see a fish that I wan't and it just came into the store, they WILL NOT LET ME TAKE IT HOME until they know that it is healthy. They WILL hold it for me for 7 days.
When it comes to corals, They have the largest selection in the Ottawa area and if they don't have that special coral or fish that you are looking for, They Will Get It.
They get a Coral and Fish Shipment every Thursday and Friday.
They carry only the BEST and only what you NEED when it comes to supplies.
They closed there web site because they could not handle the traffic or the hundreds of emails per day.

I like to get my fish from my LFS, only because you can see how the fish are kept and if they are healthy. Online it could be some whack job. If you are going to order anything from online, my suggestion would be to make sure they are reputable and then quarantine them in a separate tank for a few weeks. If you were to just stick them into your SW tank when you receive them, then it could be disastrous.

Local fish specialty stores. Never go to those big pet warehouses. The people that take care of those fish generally have no idea what they are doing. The specialty store people can help you make a decision based on cohabitation and what kind of system you have. Good Tankin'!
