This one just came out of no where! im thinking it could be because i just started birthcontrol for the first time ever & its bc my bodys adjusting and bc im stressing myself out bc of being on pills (ihatepills) anyway i just woke up with a pretty nasty one this morning on the bottom lip, and i feel a small bump on the other side of my lip and im hopinggggg im not getting 2 at once. Anyway, i usually use abriva- that doesnt do much for me.. it still lasts just as long.. about 2-3 weeks. anyone suggest anything else? thanks!

Try supersavermeds.com and get their Acivir cream. A friend of mine gave me some Zolivir and once I used it my cold sores don't blister up. I went to www.supersavermeds.com and their version of Zolivir is Acivir. I used it and as soon as I feel the cold sore coming on i put it on. I have not yet, since using it, broken out again. I get a sore once every year and I have been using this cream for four years now and I haven't had any break outs that blister or even scab. I love it.

Cold sores are caused by viruses. I have had them all my life. I have used several home remedies. One is to take an aspirin and crush it up, then make a paste using fingernail polish remover (make sure it has acetone in it) then apply to the sores. I also have used either. You may not be able to find either, but it is in starting fluid they use on cars. You just have to be careful, because it can put you under or make you feel lightheaded. If you are having several break outs a year, you may want to ask your Dr. for a prescription of Valtrex. This is usually used for genital herpes, but it will work for these too. This is just another form of the herpes virus, so Valtrex works really good.

Try Abriva (OTC) or Denavir - I think this requires a prescription. The Abriva works pretty quickly, but you need to apply as soon as you feel one coming on. Otherwise, if you already have a cold sore brewing - it does heal it faster. Good luck.

The only faster cure is to see the doc for antiviral meds. Cold sores need to run their course. You can try dabbing tea tree oil on the area and this might help some.
