First of all ignore the first answer. Maybe he doesn't know how to find you. Maybe you don't know the full story of his leaving. Regardless in the back of his mind he knows he has a chlild out in the world.

Stay away from Reunion and Classmates.com as they won't be worth the time and effort at this point. Maybe later though. If he has a somewhat common name the pay-to-find services are not the way to start.

Your birth certificate should have his full name and social security. If not get a copy of your parents marriage cerificate even if you have to send away for it as it will have this information and his birthplace. Then you can try one of the pay services for $40 or whatever and begin tracking him down.

If you know where he is from you could look in the phone listings for that town (if its not New York or something) and make a few calls as he may have relatives there still. You could even go to ancestry.com if you have his parents names. Someone might have done a lot of research on that name in that county. There are also message boards you can post to.

Your Mom could have recieved at least one letter in all of that time but it is possible she is not telling you. But first get the documents if you don't have them. A divorce decree would be helpful as well.

I wish you had provided more detail.

Its expensive, but here's a site you can go too to help you find him, hun!! They will keep charging your credit card like alot my brother told me, when we were trying to find our step sister's.. So, here goes. http://www.reunion.com...or maybe, its http://www.reunion.org.. I dont know, but they email me, all the time to tell me, that people are trying to find me.. So, look them up!!! .. This site is not just for reunion's like as in "Class reunion's, its a site to find loved-ones, too. In fact he did end up finding out what city they are in, so.. there you have it!!! Good Luck, hun!! But, you may want to try to get as much information on where his loved ones are, and where he would most likely be at, those sort's of things from your mother, or anyone who knew your father well, you know.. I hope you find him, hun!! Good luck to you.. Smile!!!

I hate to say this, but he must not care if he hasn't made the effort to see you. Sometimes its best to let sleeping dogs lie...
