My girlfriend has divorced and wants to get rid of the house. She can ask the court to sign the paper on behalf of her ex-husband to surrend the house now to the Housing Dept. But her ex-husband wants to wait until next year to sell the house in open market for better price.
If she goes with option 1, the lawyer says he can still appeal, which means it will drag on for another year. We are planning to get married asap so I can sponsor her to Canada.
If she does with option 2, there's no guarantee he will sell it in 2008. In the meantime he can rent the house out and make some $. He can do this without her knowledge. He is living in that house and my gf has moved away. She doesn't want to talk to him at all. But we don't want him to make any money out of it. We don't want to pay for the house and let him stay while we have to pay for another rental.
Any suggestion we can do?

She lives in Singapore. The law says you can't sell the house in open market before 5 years of ownership.
