No one ever remembers the name Marilyn. I always get Merideth, Melody, Mary Ann, etc. Anything that starts with an M. I don't like my middle name either otherwise I'd use that.

It doesn't have to start with an M. I just meant that when people get my name wrong they usually go with anything that starts with an M.

Kelly,
wow, i don't know how they get Maggs or Mike out of Marilyn but sometimes I get called Maddy. I got that because when I was in France everyone who pronounced my name pronunced it like Madeline and I shortened it to Maddy.

My mother's name is Marilyn, and she always got called Maggs, Moo or Muffin. Her mother's name was Marilyn, as well, and she got called "Mike"
Thankfully, I was not given that name. It is a beautiful name-I love it & adore my Mom, but I was glad to not be a third generation Marilyn!

It's a shame that no one remembers your name, Marilyn. As others have mentioned, it's such a beautiful, feminine name. I think I'd stick with insisting on being called Marilyn, no nickname. It may take awhile but if you insist on it people should catch on eventually.

I've had several nicknames: Lean (It's my name squished together), Stretch (cause I make noises when I stretch), Beth (don't ask)...
I guess my point is that a nickname is supposed to be something about you.
Knowing nothing about you I would call you Marilyn, or maybe Em, (for M.)

People are really stupid. Marilyn is a beautiful name, and so easy to remember, if only because Marilyn Monroe is still so famous, even posthumously.
INSIST on Marilyn.
