Folic acid helps in the development of the babies' nervous system. Without enough folic acid, babies can be born with a serious condition called spina bifida.

Folic acid is needed especially in the first few weeks after conception, before women know they are pregnant.

Therefore, if you are trying to get pregnant, you should be on a folic acid supplement. It will not boost your fertility, but will help ensure your baby's health.

folic acid is essential during (and suggested before) pregnancy to prevent birth defects, but it does NOT help in conceiving. it may help prevent miscarriage after conception, however. (birth defects being one thing that can result in miscarriage)
good luck!!

My understanding of it, is that it doesn't help you get pregnant, it just reduces the likelihood, that if you were to conceive, of certain birth defects, mainly spina bifida.

It can't hurt, basically.

Hopefully there will be babies for both of us...: )
